In case you were wondering why this site has 59TBIRD in its name, the webmaster has also a 1959 Ford Thunderbird. Here it is with the 2001 Thunderbird prototype at the International Thunderbird Club convention at Suffern NY July 14-18, 1999. The webmaster helped organize this great event. Hopefully Ford will put the next Mark on this exciting rear wheel drive platform. I hope to have a convention for the Lincolns of Distinction by the time Ford makes the Mark IX prototype. Wouldn't you like to have your car photographed with a show car too? I encourage you to join and get involved with this club. I can't do this alone.
Co-President Kale Kainoa owns two of this trio of Merkur XR4Ti's. He just bought a small turbo for one, and is trying to get a few more parts together to get it motivating again. He'll probably sell it when he is done and invest in some go fast goodies for his Mark VIII. With about $1300 total invested in the blue car, the car should run in the low 14's. The car is equipped with a $900 cylinder head. He had to sell the white one, the interior in that car was MINT! He took it out of a low mileage 88 with flawless perforated black leather, 150 speedometer, in-dash CD changer, all down the drain for $500 (no motor, no trans). It was collecting dust at his Dad's house, no room for it at his apartment. Kale says these cars are pretty cool. Rear-drive, relatively light, 200HP, independent rear suspension, and parts are cheap and pretty easy to find (on the Internet).
This is Sandy Block's Flamingo Pink Mark VII. He bought this car for his wife. It was a special order car that was fleet painted 1959 T-Bird color "Flamingo." This color was also offered on the 1959 Lincolns as "Shell Pink." This was the only pink Mark VII ever made. Surprise! The car was sold in 1993. Until recently Sandy thought it still existed in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, but sadly recently learned that this unique car was run to the ground and junked.
This is Bill Hamilton's 1991 Mark VII LSC SE
that he recently purchased for his teenage son to drive when he turns 17.
The son wanted a Mustang but insurance costs and safety were a major concern
for Bill. The Mark VII has the 5.0 HO motor similar to the Mustangs of
the same vintage. It is also big (the son is 6'5"), safe (with the ABS
brakes), and comfortable. Bill and his son did a "super tune"
on it and found another 20 horsepower over stock. The car had been well
maintained by the LM dealer with only 73k miles. The car performs great!
This is Jim French's 1974 Lincoln Mark IV, which he describes as the Black Beautiful Battleship. The car is triple back with black paint, black vinyl top and black interior. The car is equipped with the 460 cid engine. The car is comfortable and hunkers down its 5400 lb to the road. At this weight though, maneuverability is done more by steering committee than by steering wheel. Even so, the car is a pleasure to drive.
