"This is a good one.... Ferrari 456M"

Well tonight i was bored... had really nothing to do.. so i went out for a quick drive.. took my datalogger with me to see how the car was running.. wanted to test out the 150 shot pills i dropped in yesterday... i was out on sunrise highway crusing at 55mph.. doing 55mph to 85mph tq convter lockup pulls on nitrous to check for timing, knock, o2's etc... as im passing 111 i see this silver car FLYYYYYYY out of nowhere right bye me... i did a little catching up.. im doing 110 next to this Ferrari he looks over at me.. and shakes his head... i rev up again... he looks at me and shakes again... we drive next to each other for about 5-6 miles... till sunrise highway becomes 2 lanes of pure straigth open road.. he brings it down to 55mph... i wave... go lower... we go down to 40.. i drop into 2nd gear... he starts hitting his horn... on the 3rd beep... WE GO and holy ##### my car broke loose at 40mph with the 150 shot... but it recovered fast... and before i knew it i was shifting to 3rd, then 4th.. My speedometer WAS PINNED... i was turning 6700rpm in 4th gear LOCKED UP... And he was about 8-20 cars behind me... but i really couldnt look too hard cause i knew i was doing more then a 170mph... and holy ##### was it scary... everything was a dam blur... the car was SHAKEING LIKE MAD!! and then i hit it... My 6900rpm rev limiter... Bam... and then i shifted into neutral... and hit the brakes.... holy #####... i was shakeing... i have never gone as fast as i just did... i really had no clue how fast i just went.. but i did my gear calculator.. i just did about 192-194mph... and i swear on everyones life... i will never do that ever again... i used over 3.3 gallons of gas... it took me about a full hour before i stopped shaking... i pulled off on the next exit... stopped at the triangle pub... the Ferrari driver right behind me... he got out of his car... he saw me shakeing... he said... how fast where you going... i said... no clue.. but over 190.. he said... you just blew me away from 40mph to 170 (he let off at 170) he said after about 130... he pulls on every car he's raced... we talked a little... i was still noticeable shakeing... i really wasnt in the talking mood... it was a 2001 Ferrari 456M... something like 450 hp... i had a COKE AND LEFT...

To those who want to witness the full potential of there cars... dont! do not listen to the stupid voice in your head "top it out" your only 1000rpm away from your limiter... "go"

i now realize after i did this... my life could have been gone with just a pebble in the road.. My car was stable... but Not nearly anywhere in a safe range...

but i can say... i have gone over 190mph and i have satisfied that stupid voice in my head... my car will never see the high side of 150 ever again

ppppsshhhhh whatever, i did 190 in my moms intrepid last week.... jk

Pete, i am glad you have learned your lesson. Yes that was dumb.

But i am glad you smoked the pants off mr. Ferrari, its just like that scene from the fast and furious only with a decent looking car (no big stickers and gay wings)

I've been 197 before in my buddies Hennessy Viper. It was topped out.As we accelrated he was yelling out the speeds to me cause I could'nt see the speedo. Before he sold it to another friend he put taller gears in it and it SHOULD do 205-210 but the friend he sold it to was scared to take it over 100 let alone 200.He in turn sold it to ANOTHER friend who beats the crap out of it but doesn't like real high speed either.

So let me get this straight.Your engine is 1.8 liters, and my Pepsi is 2.

That's a straight up ricer comment there .

At that speed, a pebble or a rock or an 8 inch deep pothole wouldn't do a damn thing. You'd skip right over it. It takes a lot more than that to destabilize a car going that speed, at least in a straight line. What you should have been worried about was the tires. No way your tires are rated for 190 mph. If all of a sudden one corner drops an inch or a few, then you have issues to deal with. If you're going totally straight, you still have a chance, but any curve at all on a blown tire and you're toast.

Nice kill, though. I would definitely do that kind of speed if i could. But i'd be checking all of my tires first for blemishes and the correct pressure.

   I'll tell you what's crazy....

The aero-dynamics of your F-Body are like a backward arrow...

Lingenfelter proved this in person... if in fact you did touch the 10 till 2(00) mark... You are lucky you didn't push it anymore... As i recall Big John's endoed at 207 with 400 lbs. of metal weighing the front down....

Good luck... Glad you didn't backflip...

Yes the TA's aerodynamics were not calculated or perfected for that rate of speed.

To hit those speeds without attension to the aerodynamics of the car, is umm crazy.

I have never heard of the TA flipping, when did that happen????

>I have never heard of the TA flipping, when did that

I read a little about that in an old car and driver in high school. It was at the bonneville salt flats, and it was at about 300 mph. The thing is, most modern cars have the aerodynamic center of pressure ahead of the center of gravity. Basically it's an arrow flying feathers first. The only thing keeping it going forward is the traction of the tires. On salt you have less traction. Also, the car generates lift, which at 300 mph severely reduces traction as well. Add to that the tremendous wind load at a point ahead of the center of gravity, and the car wants to turn around real quick.

The car at the flats had a roll cage. When it flipped, it landed on it's roof and skidded a few hundred yards. The driver walked away.

   Pete, I'm glad you're okay...that is crazy!!!!

I'm sure you did it because you wanted to see how bad you could smoke a Ferrari. And now you know, so you better not do it again. Just remember, anybody can go fast, but with that amount of power, you have to have some intelligence and responsibility. It's good that you learned from it.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-02 AT 07:03 PM (EDT)

I have never been quite that fast (on land) but that kind of high wouldn't care if it was a Diet Pepsi, or a fifth of vodka. Pete did it, and will not do it again.
Edit: people who have gone too fast for their skill level know the feeling. Pete: I am talking about the hardware, not the driver. I hope you understand where I am coming from.

I'll be looking out for you guys on Sunrise Highway, I get of at Carlton Av. I regularly do 80-90 when going home late at nights with my radar detector on. Pass me by cus I won't be doing anything over 100. Most I've hit is 110 and that's scary enough.

WOW!

The fastest I ever went was in my Lexus going 155Mph.. Now that was something, and the car handled exceptionally well for that speed. Steering wheel was hard as a rock.

im just suprised how they get so much power from a 4.0!
