"Lucky Guy"

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-03 AT 09:00 AM (EDT) by vbrulz (team)

This isnt a race story but I'm here at work and bored so I thought I would share it with yall as you will appreciate it more than anyone else.

I get off of work at 2:00 am so the roads are always fairly empty. I work right on the freeway so as soon as I turn out of the parking garage its a straight shot along the feeder onto the freeway. It works really well as I am usually in the mood to get the hell out of dodge when I leave work. Once I get on the freeway I have about 7-8 miles untill I exit onto the feader. Once on the feader I have an entire mile to slow down and take a right on one of the streets. Usually on thurs. fri. night everyone is going at a good clip. I would say 80 mph sounds about right, but other nights its just us lamo's who have no life and work untill the wee hours of the morning and around 2:00am we are limping home to fall safely asleep not wanting any excitement. Last night I get off work and I'm on my way home to finish a paper before class at 8:00am so I'm moving at a clip, round 80mph I would say. About halfway home a stealth comes by going about 85 so I pick up my pace and start trailing him. Eventually were going around 100 mph and with no other cars on the road you all know this is just about as much enjoyment you can have in your mark. This is where the mark IDLES. Im cruzing without a care in the world untill we get to the freeway exit. He's getting off on the freeway exit also and while we head toward the exit I'm thinking to myself there aint no way Im getting off the freeway at 100mph without a radar its just stupid right? I slow down and he keeps going 100mph exiting. There was a little bit of traffic coming up to meet us(me) as we exited and as I merged at 55mph I saw a cop in the far right lane. I look ahead at the stealth and its WAAAAAAY up there obviously still going 80-100mph (its a very smooth exit ramp and feeder) so I look back over at the cop. You know what that mo-ferker did. He flashed he lights. That's it. Guy was going over twice the speed limit hell almost tripple the speed limit and the cop just flashed his light bar. Didnt turn on the siren or anything.

Im thinking those lucky dogs just lucked the hell out. Seriously, they plain lucked out. So I turn right and head to my house and turn into my neighborhood. I decided I need something to eat and turn around to go back to Whataburger for some tasty treats and as I exit the subdivision I romp on it. There's no one on the road so Im going 80 easy by the time I see the cop coming the opposite direction. HAD TO BE THE SAME COP. lol He just went up to the light on the feeder and took two rights and there he was catching me going over twice the speed limit. heh I got my Whataburger thanking my lucky starts.

Sorry for the boring read but Im sitting at work bored out of my mind right now.

What... do what?

Luck of the draw, luck of the draw. Usually I get busted "ump Mexican driven a nice car, must be stolen" I can't count the # of times I've had my plates run by cops and homeland security agents.

um...that really isn't what is going through our minds when we stop someone for say, well, driving twice the speed limit.

Why is it the cops must be being racist every single time we stop a minority? Could it be they (the minority) were doing something wrong?

I'm female, but I don't assume that is the reason bad things happen to me. Sometimes things just happen and your race, sex, color, age has nothing to do with it. BUT, if you think everything is race related, then you will certainly make yourself feel descriminated against. Bad ##### happens to all of us.

I'm not trying to say that you've never been the victim of racism, but give us a break sometimes. Your race is not nearly as important to US as it is to you.

BTW, I'm in a marked police car whan at work, but I don't have a radar and do not stop speeders unless they are driving recklessly. It's not my "thing." If I do happen to stop someone, their attitude is the most important factor in deciding if they get a ticket or not.

Just FYI

I'll crawl back under my rock now...so blast away.

I love it when they just flash the lights and let you go.

One time i was driving my S10 with flames (sold now) delivering pizza. It was pretty late, not many people on the road. I go through a turnaround, and i see a car coming. So i just floor it through the stop sign, because i know if i stop, i'll have to wait for the car. I didn't even slow down for the stop sign. Sure enough, it's a cop. Lights come on, i pull over. The cop doesnt' even get out of the car. He shines the light in my eyes and pulls next to me. He rolls down the window and says "Stop sign means stop, not floor it to beat traffic." I apologize, he sends me on my way. Gotta love it when they're playing "catch and release".

When I had my '89 LX 'vert, 5.0L, bright, arrest me red, white top, I could get pulled over for opening the garage door funny. Now I have the Mark, and I've gone past deputies going 70 in a 55 and not even a second look - wierd.

Seems to me that what happens after you get pulled over can have more to do with the outcome than what got you stopped for in the first place. A good attitude and a few apologies can go a long way.

You obviously are not a minority.

I know it sounded like I was basically pointing finger at every cop but you got to see it from my point of view when you have officers harassing you about where you work, WHY I’m driving this car, how could I afford this car bla bla bla.

I've never gotten pulled over for speeding in my mark but I have come up to DWI checkpoints where I actually had an officer smirk at me almost laughing one time when I answered his question: “who's car is this" I said “mine” He then asked to see proof, so I should him proof, he then told me to wait because he was going to have my information ran on the computer to see if it was correct......yea.

I've had this happen to me numerous occasions. I especially love to cross the border they must like me there because I normally get told to pull over the check station to have my personal things searched.

They pull out there fancy little hammer and start pounding away at my car, get the dogs out and have them sniff everything in my car while leaving there drool and hair all over it

You actually might be a nice officer but I don't know you same as the other officers that don't know me. Everybody prejudges somebody by there appearance, I have long hair, Mexican, and my choice of clothing is really relaxed, sandals, shorts, and t-shirts. Now do I look like the kind of person that would own a luxury car?

Not all people see past your apperence, they judge you right away.

I guess I've just had real bad luck what do you think?

Plus the cop has to figure, The guy is doing 100 mph. The cop is stopped. So the cop hits the lights and pulls out. Personally, if Im going that fast and I see a cop pull out after me, I GO FASTER!! By the time the cop even thinks about getting to 100 mph, the guy in the steath is gone. Seriously, I think they just pick their battles. I think some of them are more intelligent that we give them credit for. And then there are the rest of them......

   Pavel,

i have gotten nearly the same reaction from cops, i think it mostly has to do with my age rather than race.

I have gotten pulled over multiple times, one time i got a full car search, they tore through everything and why? because i was going 6mph over!

I agree with steph on this one, race is not as important to most cops as it is to you!

I agree...Cops seldom chase you from a stop on surface streets if you're going insanely fast. It really doubles the danger to the public, since it'll take him long enough to catch up, if he's lucky. BUT....it IS likely he'll radio ahead to any officers in the area the speeder is heading to keep their eyes peeled. Another factor is the time of night and general laziness. I've heard (but not confirmed, cuz I behave myself....*ahem*) that Boston city cops don't bother chasing speeders late at night unless they're a serious threat (i.e. running stop signs or driving erratically, AKA "drunk") because of the late-night paperwork involved.

my cruiser can go places yours can't.

Just the other night I was going 130 down this highway. I saw the cop sitting in the middle, so I slam on the brakes till I got to 80 and I just flew on by. it was like 1am and he was probally lazy, didn't even bother doing a thing. I'm sure even if I flew by him doing 130, he wouldn't have done a thing. there is no way he could've caught up to me. I turned at the next street just in case he called another cop ahead. and I don't really drive at 130 often. if I do it a handfull of times over a few months thats alot. but I wanted to see how she(my car) would react. I had crazy amounts of vibration and it was verrry loud. I'm thinking it was the driveshaft

Oh and I am getting sick of this everything is about racism crap. Whenever something happens with a white person towards another non-white person, its because of race. that is such b.s. its only an excuse because it can be 1. its the simplest way to look at things. that crap really pisses me off. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but its not every damn time.

I like the stealthiness of my Mark VIII. I can cruise along and not have to worry about standing out, which is one of the reasons why I am a little hesitant to put better exhaust and rims on my car. Once I was driving along the freeway in the left lane doing about 90 and just blew by this cop doing about 55 (the speed limit) in the next lane over. I promptly slowed down, and was really worried I would get a ticket. The cop didn't pull me over, thank goodness. He did however, nab the ricer with exhaust by Folgers who was right behind me. The other car and I weren't racing (traffic was too heavy for that) but we were both zipping right along together, and I am sure if I still had my Civic Si, I would have been ticketed.

"Damn, you got beat by that Lincoln?!"
