"Cheap Headlight Repair that WORKS"

About 11 months ago I bought my 94 M8. The headlights didn't see to be working, I had to get out of the car to look at them...they were on.
1) I bought Bright White bulds - $120.00. Waste of money. There was no reflective surface.
2) I wet sanded the surface of the lens to get rid of the yellow and pitting. This was a little better but not great. Cost $5.00
3) I removed the light assemblies, cut them open with a band saw on the back side. You can cut anywhere except the lens surface. I bought some chrome body side sticker material. Like from the old Suzuki Sidekicks. I stuck this stuff on the inside surface and spread it out smooth. I removed the deflector plate from the low beam side too. I then glued the housing halfs back together and siliconed around the seam. Almost a year and NO PROBLEMS.

My headlights are amazing now.
I don't worry about letting my son drive it at night anymore.
Total cost to do the repair, after returning the bulbs, $15.00.

Sounds good. Do you have some nighttime lighting photos you'd care to post? Head-on shots don't tell much, it's the light shining down the road that counts. BTW, it's easy to take the headlights apart, by putting one in a turned-off oven (placed on a COLD cookie sheet) that's been heated to 400º F and letting it sit in the oven for 10 minutes. The lens can then be popped off the fixture with a wide-blade screwdriver. Wear gloves, because the headlight fixture is hot.

Lucky, that's the camber angle if his steering wheel was turned slightly left, as it appears. Sweet looking car. I see that 3" wide body chrome tape at pep boys where I go evey week hoping they will eventually re-order the 7/16" chrome pin striping for me to do my bumper strips with. You think they would re-order whatever they run out of.

Bearings are good...wheel is turned....camber is right on.
I did the 5 switch over-ride mod to the suspension computer. I located the switches into the ashtray. Much neater and compact. Looks great too.
What is the problem with the description.
Sand paper should be 1500 to 2000 wet. Finish with rubbing compound.
Sticker tape should look like chrome...
Simple...look for the cheapest, this is the way I shop.
I could take some night time shots but just go out to your NON-Mark, Non-hid car, turn on the headlights (at night) and this is how the repair looks. IT WORKS GREAT.
I hate FOG/DRIVING lights on clean looking cars. It looks too ...you know.
My other car looks great with fog lights though

My Ferrari car will have fogs too.

Any parts store has a "mirror replacement" kit. It's basicly a square (3" x 6" I think) of slightly flexible mirror material with an adhesive backing. I was thinking of using this instead of chrome tape. Also, I have been considering replacing the low beam bulb with small sealed beam headlamps or clear lens driving/fog lights with maybe a clear lexan cover instead of the original lenses.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I thought the temp got way too high for the lights. Is the tape heat repellant?

You need to remove the metal light deflector on the low beam side. Now there is nothing to heat up except plastic. It has been working for a year now...no problems.
If it melted on some people, perhaps some talent or brains could solve this problem.
Why is everyone so negative on this site. IT's just a car guys..Holy Cow.
I had been reading posts and replies, man oh man, do something instead of talk about it.

Hey, I'm not doubting that it works. I was just curious about what made your mod different to make it work. Its a pretty important thing for people to know. Not everyone has 1K for HID's. (obviously) including me...so, I am especially interested to know what made yours work. Don't mistake a question for negativity. More power to you for making the mod work!

I got tired of messing with it and put Silver Stars in the high beam side and never use the low beam. I can see just fine and never get flashed.
