"What's a Good Tire Match with Detroit Wheels Cobra Rs"

Running BFG 255\45\17 Gforce kdws with 9x17 Detroit Wheel Cobra "Rs" on my 98 Mark, and having trouble maintaining front balance. Have tried the latest Hunter balancer, new lug nuts and looked into centering rings. Still problems. Anyone recommend a tire brand\size working smoothly with these wheels. Thanks

You say "looked into centering rings" - have you actually gotten a set of hub centric rings? The slightest bit of off-center with lug centric wheels will cause problems - and 'doubly bad because the weight of the car is supported by the studs and not the normal flange. If the wheels arent hub centric from the factory, exact sized rings are a must!

I'll support John's comment with a brief(yea, right) description. Remember when you removed your wheels(if you have ever done it yourself) from the car, how they sort of "stuck" to the hub? See, the lugnuts do "attempt" to center your wheel, but they really just hold the wheel on. These cars are designed where the wheel should actually center itself on your hub by means of the wheel's center bore. It should be an exact fit. You should be able to hold the wheel flush to the hub, with no lug nuts, and NOT be able to move it up or down on the hub flange. If this isnt obtained, the lug nuts will mount the wheel off-center, and you will basically have an eliptical rotation. The wheel actually spins like it is off center. Multiply that by the amount of revolutions at speed, and you get a vibration. If your aftermarket wheel's center bore does not match-fit the hub flange on your car, it will vibrate when you drive. This is a common mistake people make when they order aftermarket wheels. Call Tire Rack.. give them the wheel model number (stamped on the inside of one of the spokes) and tell them you need hub-centric rings for your Mark VIII. They should stock something. When you get the rings, have the tires re-balanced with the rings ON THE WHEEL.Very important. Also, use a slight amount of anti-seize on the hub when you reinstall.
