"brake light...without the brakes!"

LAST EDITED ON May-25-02 AT 11:54 PM (EDT)

wassup, guys? i've seen about every problem fixed on this board, so i figure i'll throw this in the mix:

my brake light (the warning light above the stereo) on my 95 LSC goes on when i hit the brakes while cornering. i notice that this is more frequent with colder temps--after the car/weather gets warm, it happens a lot less. also, if im cornering hard without hitting the brakes, i.e. accelerating onto the interstate, the same thing. weird, eh? the brakes don't seem to have any fade, although i believe the pads are the originals.
--also, they don't squeak, if that matters.

later,

There is a sensor in the brake fluid resivour that if the level is not high enough will cause this to happen. It kind of floats on the fluid. Just top off the fluid level and you should be all set.

"although i believe the pads are the originals."

I would check them too. They could be the cause of your low brake fluid.

I had this problem in my '95 my self. The light comes on during right turns only right?

Well, maybe laters, it was anytime cornering, right?

My problem was the fluid was low, causing the sensor to get dry during corners. Problem is, if it's that low, then you're probably going to not only discover you need pads, but rotors somewhere too. The fluid's low because the pads (and therefore, the caliper pistons) are WAY out.

Total fronts for me. Light went out. 8^)

These cars are too smart for my own good.

Laters!

go figure. i topped off the master cylinder, and the light doesn't come one. i think i'm going to change the brakes, however, as the stopping power isn't what i would like it to be. i really hope i don't have to replace the rotors--that doesn't sound cheap.

raybestos seen to be the pad of choice here. no contest there. guess i will bust out the credit card...
