Seeing as the club has grown quite dramatically this year, I think it is logical to expect an even larger turnout than last year. To that end, now is probably a good time to set some expectations for those who are new to the club and what they can expect at Carlisle this year. Trixie published a calendar of events last time around, which was very beneficial. It gives us all an idea of what is happening and when. Here's some examples of what to expect.
Getting on to the field at Carlisle can be challenge with so many people attending. This means that it's up at the crack of dawn to get there before the crowds. We had a small convoy of about 12 cars that left the hotel around 7:00 AM to get there. Even then, there was a line up. It was about 15-20 minutes to the fairgrounds. Line ups are to be expected.
There are plenty of food vendors on site. Don't worry about getting breakfast before 7:00 at the hotel. You can get some good chow on the field.
It doesn't matter if your car isn't a show vehicle like Leo's Moose. Just being there is a thrill. Shine up your Mark as best you can (or not) and show up! It's cheaper to be on the field than park outside. Besides, it's great to see so many cars on the field at one time.
Saturday is probably the busiest day. Sunday, a lot of people have to drive long distances home and they hit the road early.
My wife and I drove down Thursday and met some folks that night at the hotel. Then we headed out early Friday morning to the fairgrounds in the possy.
There is a huge automobile flea market on site. It's amazing if you haven't witnessed something on this scale before.
There will probably be a dyno on-site. That's pretty cool. Especially when the big boys show up and a Mark VIII out pulls the Mustangs! Yee Haaa!
I'm sure others will chip in here. This year's event should be a blast....
