Went to a 1/8 mile track outside Chattanooga, TN today with Aric to T&T. Waste of time for me. I was able to manage some 1.8 60's with the street tires, but when it hit second gear, the car pointed to the fence every time, and I had to lift. Must of been making some good power up top of the rpms today, because I have not had it break loose so much that I felt the need to lift before. I might need to go up to Summit this week, and see about buying some DR's. Here is the video. Aric is driving Steve's Marauder. He just put a 2 step on it, and was dialing it in.

Whenever I had a car that was street / strip I always ran 8 inch slicks at the track, which bit much better than drag radials there. But I also found that on the street a soft compound treaded tire or a drag radial worked better than the slicks! It was like having the right tool for the job!

man, that track looked sketchy. I've seen too many bad wrecks on too many bad tracks. Smart man for lifting. The whole shebang aint worth the little piece of paper, ya know?

see this car below? It belongs to an aquaintance of ours-Randy Cloud, proprietor of L&M Transmission and Top Sportsman racer.

that's what happens when a professional built race car meets a really old guardrail(armco barrier). It was a T-Bird tube chassis car/alston/top sportsman car. 4 barrel rolls, a roof slide, a guard rail peel, and the driver walked away. It was on a crash run...but the guard rail at this old track ended up completely peeling the car apart.

Mike...get some HOOSIER DOT slicks...they are basically a slick, but are only DOT approved to run in DOT classes for the track. Dont even bother with drag radials in that car...I think you'll wish you got sticker.

Now that I think about it, I've seen that little track, on one of our many trips "Up North"! Just south of Chattanooga. I always thought it was pretty cool seeing the tire smoke from the burnout box wafting over I-75 as we went by!

My first, and possibly last time I will be there. For guys living on the edge, this place is for you. Don't have to worry about tech inspection, because there is no tech inspection lol.

For what I have been doing with the car this year, I think the dr's are at least a step up from the t1r's that are on the car now. I never got sideways on dr's at least.

It WILL help...will it be the cure of your traction issues?
probably not.
Will it be an improvement over standard Pmetric street tires?
YES

I'd sacrifice 5/100 second by throwing some weight in the back to help traction rather than just keeping my fingers crossed that it hooks up.

if you hook up due to added ballast, you lose some ET.
but if you dont hook up and just spin for the first 60-100 feet, you aint gonna ET worth a darn anyway.

Just be sure you dont have the TC on like on PASS TIME.

those boys wanted to see you run a 11.80...as did I.

Good luck either way Mike...like I said, you'll going to be better with those than without. $600 is a little steep...but hey, it's only money, right?

just a thought...depending on your bolt pattern...maybe someone's got a set of DOT slicks you can make 1 pass with at the SSHS9HSHSHHSSHSH9

Thanks Craig. I had 3/4 tank of fuel, spare tire, floor jack, cooler full of water, tools, etc, in the trunk this past weekend, and it still would not hook the 1-2.

lol I am going to have a yellow sticky on the dash at SSHS9. The tires were $500, but when you add tax, tire swap, road force balance, etc., it became a $600 day for me.

lol I am a retired old fart, so $600 is a bigger deal now days. lol gonna have to get another job to keep this thing on the street

seems like maybe Aric should kill some timing at the 1-2 to lay off the hammer a bit. What does that thing shift at?

Too bad you couldn't incorporate some ABS in to the rear brakes at the 1-2 to slow down the wheel speed. all speed traction control uses both ignition timing and ABS...you don't want it off the line, but at the 1-2, it wouldn't be bad...except for that big snail under the hood requires more than just some basic timing/fuel mapping at shift point.

traction is key. Nothing worse than making power, and spinning it right out of the car...


I edited my last post after you replied Mike...I was suggesting finding someone at the next event who might have a set that will fit under your car if your bolt patterns are the same...

Last I heard, he had it set at 7150 on the 1-2. lol All I know is, the tach is buried, and it probably has 15-17 pounds of boost up top at the shift.

He really can't tune the car when it spins like it does, and the last time he tried to tune it was at SSHS8 last year, when the daggum silicon connectors kept popping off the IC tubes. Probably had 2 good runs at SSHS8 with the bias ply inner tube ET Streets that I just sold. So, he will have this Friday night, and Saturday morning to mess with it before the shootout.

My ABS has been dead for a couple years now - need a sensor, but I do not think he wants it on at all anyways. Yep, I have the Mustang bolt pattern, so if the opportunity to borrow some slicks for a couple passes comes up, I am on it.
