I have a new radio that I am replacing the old one with in my 1998 Mark VIII. I am using an adapter connector system. The power on part (there are two connectors in this kit and the seller claims it's correct for the 1998 MkVIII and several other Ford/L-M cars) is working. The radio works. The problem is no sound to the speakers. All of this was working fine with the old radio. I tested the speaker wires out with a loose speaker and it worked however none of the speakers are working in the car. The female connector that is in the car has 16 wires coming out of it the male connector from the kit has 8 wires for speakers (two for each of four speakers) and one amp ground.
At first I thought it might be the radio but my test with the loose speaker confirms the out put from the radio is working. Has anyone run into this before? What am I doing wrong. Thanks, Art

Presumably, this is an aftermarket stereo that you are installing in place of the factory head unit? Do you have a photo/part # of the harness that you were sold? Did you disconnect the CD changer in the trunk? Does the power antenna go up/down when you select radio?

I lied in my previous post. Clearly there's an antenna but I can't find it outside of the car! I heard a motor sounding noise when I cut the power off while doing the install and ASS U ME'd it was the antenna. Hey, I'm getting old. Anyway, there is an antenna cable in the system and it was hooked up.
The door speakers have JBL on them so, I gather I have a JBL system that I have read about on other posts. There is a 10 disc CD changer in the trunk and it works - kinda. This AM I put the OEM radio back in and all works so I guess I didn't screw anything up.
I work for a multiline car dealer so I took the coward's way out...I sent the whole thing down to the shop that does all our stereo installations. Let the pro's do it, this one is outside my pay grade. I can do simpler plug and play set ups, but this one is a bit more sophisticated.
It's been a number of years since I've owned a Mark VIII (I had a 93 model years ago and sold it). This one was traded here and I think it has all the options with only 55,000 on the clock. I couldn't let it get away. Ford does some bizarre things it seems but I'm also dealing with a 1977 C****** Cordoba (with reeech Corinthian vinyl) and that's been a real experience. Lean Burn engine my big old B***! I always liked Ricardo, but I believe I'd like to kick him in the **** for that.

PS Got car back this afternoon, job done everything works fine. Some of this stuff is best left to the pros. But, I would like to know how he solved the problem. When I get a chance I'll pass it along...if he will tell me.
