"Lifting a Mark VIII on a two post lift"

I have a factory service manual on disk for my 97 Mark VIII. In the jacking and lifting section it says to "NEVER use a two post lift". Why? I own a two post service lift and don't understand the reason behind this. The car would be lifted by the same points the service manual recomends jacking by.

I can't explain why but I do know mine has been lifted on a two post lift many, many times. This particular lift is located in a DoD facility so you can bet if there was even a sniff of a safety hazard they'd not allow it. That's not to say the government is smart but they do have a certain savoir faire about picking nits. I've never felt uncomfortable working under it either and I'm a little skittish after almost cutting my leg off with a brake rotor and a jack when I was younger....
