"98 Silver Base - traded my 94 for a 98"

Well, after 5 years and 60k, I traded my 94 pearl/blk, for a 98 Silver metallic. In the last few weeks, everything started to break on the 94, sway bar link, radio volume stuck on max, AC fair to middlin, rear air bag leaking.. I figured it was time. I was afraid I'd have to go with a Conti but among the literally 40 or 5 Mark VIIIs for sale in a metro area of 3 million I finally found a fairly decent one with only 130k at a dealer. 2900, 130k. Some rust underneath but not as bad as the 94 was getting, one HID is fading pink, one strut sensor is wired up because they used a t-bird control arm, and an AC hose is rusted out. Also, my 94 interior looked barely worn, so that part is disappointing but I suspect there are very few Mark VIIIs of any age that had as nice an interior as mine had. Broken cup holders, broken ash tray cover, lots of little interior things to be addressed. Sadly, thy tried to give me 500 for the 94, I got them to 800. I could have sold it for around 1400 but just don't have the time to deal with it.

On the plus side, the neon and the steering wheel telescoping work! Already changed out the noisy idler pulleys, now need to determine why it suddenly seems to be misfiring though there is no CEL coming on (it's not burned out. I suspect degreasing the engine I got water somewhere, maybe in a coil boot? I need to get a fuel filer, air filter, PCV vales, fresh plugs and maybe all 8 boots. Anywho, here's a few shots.

neon works! A guy almost immediately saw me taking photos and pulled over and asked if I was selling it

a little rust on the pass door edge, and you can see the pink hue of the HID light, and the chrome failing on the grill top
<>

looks like it was well maintianed, just needed light degreasing

inside

lame...
<>

one foggy lens and light fading to pink
<>

tray isn't too bad

and a shot of the old girl... gonna miss her

Looks like a good find, rare to land one with the telescoping wheel and neon still functional. I'd bet a wire wheel and some silver POR-15 would set the bottom of that door straight. Only concern I'd have being a MN car, how do the rocker panels look?

Thank you very much, it's in pretty good shape for this part of the country. It was in IL until 05. The driver's side in front of the rear wheel is the only fairly bad place, but up here sometimes you have to take what you can get.I'd like to get that door all set before winter. I also need to touch up a few minor scratches as well.

Nice car -but I'm partial since I have a twin in my 97 that now has 91,000 miles on it. Although I still have two black on black Mark VIII's - I was getting tired of the black interior color and really like the light gray interior color of yours/mine.

One suggestion - I was really getting tired of buffing the headlight covers every couple months from turning yellow from sun exposure, so I recently sanded with 1,000 grit and then shot 2 coats of clear on them. They turned out crystal clear and no more yellowing or hazing. So if you repaint the grill to body color, might I suggest clear coating the headlight covers also.

tvw, I was going to ask about that in a separate post. I polished the one and it helped some but before I went more aggressive I wanted to see what people do. The carpets were "cleaned" but they are still fairly filthy, I will do a real job on them myself and see how well they can be done. I liked the black but it absorbs SO much heat it's almost unbearable.
