"Donations and Site support"

Just a reminder folks...this site is growing every day. It is also getting many new posts a day. The more popular it becomes, the more effort is required by Cal.

Remember, the original Blue Guy was $10, back when the site had less than 7000 members. We are rapidly approaching 9500 members.

So here's a friendly reminder to those who already support...go ahead and send in a renewal if you wish to keep your blue guy/webspace/emails.

If you are new to the site, or have been a member for some time now, this is a positive way to "give back" and help promote this website for future readers/members.

Whether or not you have noticed, I want to point out that this site is NOT littered with banner ads and pop-ups. It is funded solely by Cal Louie. While he continues to mention it is one of his passions, his work-load has grown with the website, and server costs arent getting any cheaper. Not to mention the fact that continual site maintenance takes a LOT of his personal time, of which there is not much of based on his real-world work, and spare time hobbies. He's stretched pretty thin folks, so lets do what we can to help keep the incentive present.

If you have a blue guy, try to get as many new members as you can to "pony up".

If you have come to rely on this website for free technical advice and find it valuable, take a few minutes and set up a pay-pal account, and spend $10 to give back on a positive level so that future users may benefit as well.

I will be sending $20 soon just because Brenda and I both have webspace, and well...it's the best darn $20 I could ever invest in my own future...without this site, I'd be screwed.

p.s. using paypal as a method of contributing does make it easier than mailing a check, but if you prefer to mail Cal a check, he is still accepting them as donation/support methods of payment. Paypal just means fewer trips to the bank, and the last thing we want to do is take more of Cal's time.

Thank you to those who have already sent in support donations. And thank you in advance to those who plan to in the future.

Remember, it takes less time to pay $10 than it does for someone to type in a technical repair post that may have saved you more than $10!

pay it forward! Thanks!

I'll be renewing mine in December.

I've got so many photos in my webspace, I might need to ask for more, for another 10 bucks soon. I'm not sure if this is possible though.

I enjoy being able to share photos using this webspace. Unlike some other photo hosting sites, the photos remain here.

I hate red "X"'s when I'm searching for an old photo.

I kicked in another few dollars a couple of weeks ago. I think I am current and probably a little bit ahead. But I am way ahead on the info I receive from all the people who post here.

Now, the question is: How do you get more people to donate?

I see some fairly lame excuses for someone not giving a little bit. Like the guy Iceman gave some dead on info to and saved the guy a couple of hundred. Ice asked him to donate and the dude said he didn't have the money.

I see lots of names with few Blue Guys. Lots of these cars are at the end of their life and the ownership is moving to 16 and 17 YO kids. I don't know if you will get too many kids to help the cause. But there are lots of older guys hanging out here, too.

And then there are those who pass through. They make 10 or so posts and they are gone. And I'm sure many are lurkers.

I ramble. So back to the question. How do you get that donation?

Other than coming out with a post that hits it directly and risks sounding like a public broadcasting channel plumbing for funds, I don't know.

Thanks, all. Webspace limits are...flexible. If you have a need for it, I can usually set you up, especially if it's for the good of the community as a whole.

I'm not in this to make money, or come close to breaking even. Unlike many sites, we don't charge anyone for the information, or require membership to search the archives. I accept donations simply because some folks wanted to help me keep the site going, and other than freeing up some of my time by coming to my house and doing my laundry, washing my cars, and feeding the pets, money is about the only viable way of helping me keep this place running.

For those that who have contributed, I thank you, and so should everyone else who has found the site useful, especially in a pinch when you need parts or help. This place owes as much to the supporting members, moderators, and all the helpful posters, as they do to me.

with 10,000 members now on board, this is a good time to rekindle this thread, and remind folks that the year is coming to an end. Why not tap in to the funds and donate $10.00 to the site to help keep the doors open.

Admit it...best $10.000 option your car could possibly have come with!
