Absolutely GREAT JOB --- Mike. Thank you very much for all your efforts and work on this event. This year's Shoot-Out seems to really be developing into the greatest Shoot-Out I've been to in 6 years.

Again, thanks for all your efforts. I am going to register NOW!!!

Thanks, Glenn. This event has been put together by volunteers, that are all working very hard to make this happen. They all deserve the accolades. Calvin, for one, is a huge reason this event is even going to happen. My personal thanks to Calvin, Terry, Brian, Paul, Jim, and Steve for getting us this far, and thanks to all that are going to volunteer the day of the event!

Great News! We have added a Pro Street 10.90 Index class to the SSHS9 schedule! Nothing better than seeing a bunch of 10 second, 4000 pound beasts tearing up the track!

When do you think the participant page will be up on the SSHS9 website. This is usually a very interesting page for the participants and promotes even more people to register.

Glenn, I have no idea. That is totally up to Jim if the roster is posted at all. lol I have asked for it about a dozen times now, and have gotten nowhere. I know he did mention that some people did not want their names on the list in the past, and was not very keen on having a roster posted on the web site.

I will post a thread on SSHS9.com for those that have registered to post up their name, year, make, model, power adder, best et/mph, and I can create an "unofficial list" from that.

Interesting to see the degree of self-destruction going on in the SSHS9 thread at the SS Impala forum. And I thought the MM community had issues. My posts don't even get a second look anymore.

It's official I'll be in the Marauder this year guys...
Can we still be friends?
The second pair of wheels for the Mark still have not shipped. They REALLY better look good when they get here.

lol Glenn, They seem to be very critical when it comes to LT1 engine blocks similar to the Marauder guys feelings when someone is putting a FE big block in a Marauder. Too much drama for me.

Well Gary, sorry to hear the wheels are not done yet. Glad I get to see the new MM though!

It seems that we now will have several 9 second MM cars at SSHS9. The Impalas are going to have the strongest run for "Big Dog" in years. It will be a great event to attend to see history being made.

I will be there, Glenn

Post up everyone that is going to the Friday night T&T. We usually meet at the Sonic drive-in and eat before going to the track. Try to get to the Sonic around 4-4:30pm, and we will caravan to the track at around 5pm. Track gates open at 6pm.

Just don't forget that ATL Marks trophy is not for fast time or low ET, it's for lasting the most rounds and a stock MK8 has far less chance of a serious variation in times due to malfunction or error in launching than any car that's highly modified. Then it boils down to reaction times and the right choices on dial-in.
Anyhow, this is only pertinent IF Cal decides to rescind his previous comments that he felt that the ATL Marks trophy would only be awarded to someone who at least occasionally attended one of our 2nd Wed. meals together.

Geeez....it's been a year already, since I was waiting for Mike's follow-up post from the event.

Mike...good luck...hope Aric has the tune all sorted, and your tires are sticky enough to see you keep the steering wheel straight.

we have a saying in drag racing;
The steering wheel is used to get you to the burnout box. after that, all it does is hold buttons until the turn off."

hopefully you have a safe, fun event...and kick some tail.

Just talked to Mike on the cell. They're all partying somewhere in Commerce and he was talking to JP when I called. Sounded as if all were having a good time. One of these days I'm gonna have to go up on Friday instead of the next morning early. Just hard to pay for a room when you only live about 2 hours away!
I looked at GA Navigator site earlier and didn't see any talk of construction that should give me a problem in the AM.
Mike said he broke a blower belt, but had called Aric (the guy who did the blower on Mike's Mark) and he will be bringing one in the am.
I'll probably pul out of Griffin about 06:00 and stop somewhere for breakfast on the way. Hope some of yall make it.

Yep, We are having fun here... I tried to stall the torque converter at 2000 rpm on the line, and it shook the tires during launch, then snapped the belt. So, I did not get a clean run all night, and the best was a 12.3 at 118. We went looking for some parking lot parties around midnight, but everyone was in bed already Hope everyone has a great day today!

Hope everyone had a great time. lol This event is like Christmas for me, and I look very much forward to it every year. Those that have never been to the shootout, have no clue what they are missing out on - it is that good! Thanks to all the volunteers, and sponsors that worked so hard to put this gig on every year!

Congratulations to all the winners, and my condolences to all the wounded warriors. 364 days to the next shootout, so you better hurry and get your junk fixed!

Here is a link to some pictures from the track photographer. See you all next year for SSHS10!

Mike, the event would not have been a success without your efforts. I think I saw you in the driver's seat of the minivan most of the day, running one thing or another.

Gary, sorry the day ended badly, hope this doesn't mean you won't be back.

I dont understand...only one pic of a ET?
Mike...no pics of your car running on the track?

Broke a belt...couldnt get fixed?

You say this is like Christmas for you...your tree died...couldn't you go get another tree?

Bummer...Nice pics...but we have no idea what all of the cars ran...we know they were there...we saw a few dial-ins...

glad you had a good time though...right up until the Million dollar car came to a stand-still because of a 2000 rpm launch and a snapped belt.

Thanks again, Calvin, for your commitment to this event! This was the best one yet! Great pics, too!

I know Craig, It sucked not racing in the shootout, but I still had a great time! The belt did not get finished until eliminations started. Ryan had to drive all over Georgia to find a 113" belt in the morning, that was also very difficult to install for some reason. Aric usually can do this job himself in a few minutes. Not on this day...

The head unit has to be loosened up, and then the tensioner was giving them fits that is behind and under the head unit. They had 3 guys on top of the car, and one guy under, with the passenger side of the car in the air trying to get that thing on as quick as they could.

Then, I had a coolant air pocket that had to be burped. It puked about 1 1/2 gallons of fluid. With that, I got the message from Karma that it might not be a good day to race, so I tossed in the towel. This is the very first belt problem I have had since going supercharged. Most s/c guys jump a tooth and shred their belts. lol Not me, that bad boy was almost a clean snap in half.

The Mark is safely back home in it's cave, and I just polished off all the paw prints on the shiny stuff in the engine compartment for it's photo shoot coming up after this hurricane blows through. The local ATL car club I belong to - FPCOA, wants to have The Mark on the new poster that they are producing, with two other cars from the club.

Anyway, Not sure if I will try another 2k launch, after seeing what a pain it is to put a belt on this thing. BTW... There is a spare 113" belt in the trunk now

Mike...I can completely understand wanting to call it a day after running in to such drama. But I have to ask you...how did the 3 guys feel after thrashing to get you out there only to have you back out?
I've seen guys slam a transmission in a car between rounds...the car owners were ready to walk away, but after half their friends showed up to fix their junk, they felt obligated to make a pass...it's sort of a reward for them.

But hey...why risk wadding up the sled in a puddle of coolant, or grenade a motor because something was over-looked, so I am with ya on that.

And the spare belt in the trunk? You can take that out and put it in the PARTS BIN FOR SSHS10...

I am surprised it couldn't handle a 2000 rpm drop though...but hey, I dont race street cars, so...

lol Marvin, Nope. She worked most of the day as a volunteer, like me.

lol Craig, Those guys that thrashed on the car to get the belt on are good friends of mine along with being the builders of the car. I told them last week that I was running the volunteer effort at the shootout, and they can run the car if they wanted to during the day because I would probably be busy with volunteer stuff anyway.

So, They really had no problem one way or another if I ran the car. They wanted to make sure I got home though, so I am grateful for that.

They had fun with all that work they did anyway. They had access to a pool of customer cars at the event. They got to drive and put their customer's orange Cobra street car in the 9's, and Steve's 810rwhp Marauder in the 10's.

All I know about the 2k launch was, that it felt real good until the tire shake... I agree, 2k with a 3800 stall tc should do just fine. Maybe it was just that perfect time for the belt to snap.

No different than with Gary's supercharged motor letting go on a 13 second pass. I was a ride along with him on friday night t&t, and it was very tame - like the on ramp merging on the interstate. You would think he could go like that forever...
