There is a part under the gas tank on my '97 that contains 2 boxes with some hoses coming out of them. I'm not sure whether the boxes are part of the air suspension system, fuel system, or what, but the back 2 screws on this apparatus are not doing anything since the basket is completely rusted through my the tabs that hold it on.

So, it is barely hanging on by the 2 front screws, and probabl not for long.

What is this thing, where can I get one (the dealer or a junkyard, obviously, but maybe someone has one near Saint Louis, or it is cross compatible with a cougar or t-bird part) and how much should I expect to pay?

It's the evap canister, NLA from Ford, try some of the folks parting out cars.
