"RE Chrome Grille and Headlamp trim"

Has anyone had any experience with re-chroming the grill or lower headlight strips on Mark VIII Gen II (1998) The chrome is coming off of mine leaving the black below it.

The easiest solution is just to paint them body color....But I did see something on the speed channel(can't remember which show though)about a pour on coating for chroming plastic. Jay Leno was talking about it,so I'm guessing it could have been on My Classic car.

Info - No joy in Mudville.... http://www.ridelust.com/new-process-replaces-chrome-plating/ .

My Classic Car is sponsored by Eastwood products. They might have something that would work? Paul's Chrome has been in business for a long time and should be able to do something like this. Take your wallet when you call them though.

Any decent auto body supply house should have a paint match system and be able to mix you some in quantities as small as a quart or so.

Has anyone come up with a solution regarding the chrome. I parked my 98 MK VIII next to one that had perfect chrome, I really like the chrome look. If possible I would like to go back to the chrome not the "paint the same as the body color" routine.

You could try Alsa Corp. They got all kinds of stuff. Chrome paint. Chrome wrap. etc.

I bought some of their chrome wrap to do my grill. Have not got around to covering the grill, yet, but I put a piece of it on the bottom of a cereal bowl and has withstood repeated soapy washes quite well.

On my Gen 1 I had Chrome prepped at Body Shop & painted to match Bumper... a Gen 2 LSC look.. & IMO it looks great BTW ... Do yourself a favor & pick up an extra on THAT SITE & have it painted too in case you find a rock & lose a "tooth".

1996 Mk VIII Ivory Pearlescent / Ivory Interior... & Let's not forget guys... there's still a dead Imaginary Ex-Girlfriend out there...
