"Timing Curve"

My MKVIII has the traction control option. With the unit on, the rear brakes apply to the wheel that spins through the abs system up to 15mph. My question is, does it also alter the timing curve to the pcm computer? While drag racing, I can't feel the difference and have run my best time with the traction control on mainly because of a much better hook-up out the gate.
Thanks,
George

I believe that differs from year to year. The first gen only use the brakes... The second use a curve. I think.

I can definitely attest to the fact that my '98 falls flat on it's face when the traction control kicks in. It doesn't take much to get one wheel to break loose and engage the traction control. I consider it dangerous since I then can't get out of the way of oncoming traffic. It's scared me a couple times. I try to remember to turn it off as soon as I get going, but I usually forget. Wish there was a way to set the default to OFF, but be able to engage it on the rare occassions that I might want it.

on my OBDII scanner i check the timeing advance and it is the same with traction control on or off. this means that if your car hook up well on the street it is totally personal prefrence on whether or not to leave it on or off. i all way turn on the motor and turn off trac at the same time. it is just reflects now. i believe that second gen uses the brakes and cutting the timeing to keep things in line.

I agree with you Greg, the default TC selection should be the other way around. My Mark doesn't have it, but I was in a 99 Grand Prix, standard setup, with TC. the crap was scared out of me a few times until I remembered to turn it off. The car would just die, like a stall, but it was running as normal with it off. It wasn't really very easy to break that thing lose either, I bet a Mark owner would have to wear plastic underware unless he turns off the TC. I presume the only good time to use it is in snow/ice, what ever that is...
