"95 mark viii idle sticks and accelerates on its own pt.2"

drives pefect in the morning but by the afternoon the car almost seems as if its stuck in second gear.

it accelerates on its own and doesnt stop till I park it and leave it overnight

when I turn it on the cars idle sticks at 3000-4000rpm

then I have to pop it into drive and the car accelerates by itself

ive already changed the idle control and it did not help

I heard of something with seafoam..in the intake and gas tank
would this help my problem?

any help would be appreciated

What happens in the afternoon? How far do you drive before the idle runs away?

If it's getting good and warm in the PM and then revving up, you probably have a big air leak somewhere, or an idle air controller problem. It could also be your MAF.

Let's start the isolation process.

1) Unhook your cruise control cable from the throttle body and tie wrap it out of the way somewhere. It just snaps off of its locating ball on the TB. See if that makes any changes.

next

2) Maybe a vac leak but 3000rpm sound excessive for a vac leak. The IAC valves are not easy to change on a Gen I. Maybe you did not get a good seal with the IAC gasket. Start looking at all your vac tubes: PCV tube at the TB , power brake booster tube, etc. Get some starting fluid and start spraying around all the vac tubes. Spray around all the intake manifold and where the IMRCs bolt to the cylinder heads.

I have a small vac leak right behind the coolant crossover tube, at the base of the IMRC that is causing me to idle at 1200-1500 rpm. It was a hard leak to find and worse I have had the manifold off 3 times and have not got the leak stopped. So when the weather gets right, this time I am going to spray some dye at the leak and try to see if I can even find exactly where it is leaking.

This may not help you, but I would fine tooth comb it for a vac leak.

After that, I'm not sure. Possibly a defective PCM?

I just had that exact problem this afternoon with my 98. As luck would have it, I had just finished my suspension rebuild and was on my way to the shop for an alignment. So I had them fix the revving engine first. I believe they said the idle air control valve was stuck open, I'll know in greater detail tomorrow when I pick up the car.

Picked up the car this afternoon, it was the idle air control valve stuck in the open position. $300 fix - $90 for the computerized engine analysis, $133 for the new valve, $68 for labor.

The problem caused by the stuck valve is that my engine idled at 3500 rpm. In Drive it kept trying to accelerate to highway speeds. I shifted into Neutral at red lights, then launched forward at green lights. I guess I now know what a 3500 rpm stall torque converter feels like! Makes for an exciting ride, but not the kind of excitement I want.

And yes, I heard a lot of Toyota jokes at the shop.

well an open IAC is definitely a vacuum leak! Mine did the same except was only about 1500, drove 55 without touching the gas... $68 labor for a Gen I IAC is a deal!

Hopefully it is also a good deal for a Gen 2, mine is a 98 (did not mean to hijack the thread, but had the same problem as the original poster.) If so, maybe they were giving me a break since I also bought four new tires, had them mounted and balanced, the got an alignment. The total bill is four digits.

ok that makes much more sense, a GEN I is a PITA, Gen II is a 5 min job, so $68 isn't a deal, but it's what a shop can get. On a Gen I it's about an hour job if you know how to do it and everything co-operates.
