"Halogen conversion from hid, 97 lincoln mark viii headlights"

Hi everyone,

Well I have been driving around for a year now with one low beam. Waiting for a good solution at a reasonable cost. I have been stopped once with a warning before summer. Now itís getting darker earlier so I took action. At home ford told me the conversion is on back order until today, at a cost of $735.00. I went online and found the kit for $535.00 plus $15.00 dollars shipping. The kit arrived today with no instructions. No problem I know what I have to do. I removed the lights and ballast, then I removed the module behind the glove box. I installed the lights and new module. Happy as a clam because the lights worked.

Sad because my car would not start. I put the old module in and it started. Reinstalled the new module and it would not start. Bad module I think. I go online to our great forum and finally find a thread that says I do not need the new module. Back out to the car and now I wonder why I did not see this thread earlier. It seems to work just great with the old module. No check light message. I unplugged one light and I got a check lights messaged.

Why is the new module not working (bad is my guess). Why is the old module working for I could have bought both light assemblies for $460.00 dollars without the module. Can anyone provide me with answers? I appreciate your responses.

This car is a money burner, but not worth the trade in at the depreciation rate. Lucky I do not owe anything on it, but not willing to get rid of it at its current price.

Thanks to all that reply.

the new module is not working because of the PATS part of the module. passive anti theft system.... in a nutshell, your key is coded to your original SCIL module, not the new one, the new one will not work unless you bring the car to ford and let them reprogram the new SCIL module to your key. but, you do not need the new module, i have seen a half a dozen threads now stating that the new module does not need to be changed, as you found our yourself, you might be able to get ford to reimburse you for the module, but with 99 % of electrical parts, i highly doubt they will take it back now. but, you can keep the old module in the car, it works fine with the new housings, it doesnt need to be changed.

All you have to do is program the module with your key. Just put your key in the ignition, turn it to run, wait for the Anti theft light to come on for 3 seconds then go out. Insert your second key after 15 seconds, turn to run, the light should come on for 3 seconds and go out. You are done. the car should start with the new module. I just did the same installation today. Followed the Ford proceedures for replacing the the modulehich is not in the kit instruction by the way. Let me know if you still have trouble.
Regards,
HAP
