"Eastern Catalytic Converter ?"
Tue Jan-18-11 11:41 PM by 1970swbc10

My 98 has an exhaust leak at the passenger side catalytic converter. My muffler shop mechanic says he can replace just the converter with a universal with a built-in oxygen sensor port for $180.

Eastern Catalytic sells a direct OE replacement (EAST30446) which includes the Y-pipe assembly with 2 catalytic converters and the 3 oxygen sensor ports in 409 ss and aluminum steel pipes. Directions say it's a bolt in with no welding or cutting. Cost from RockAuto is $311.

I'm leaning towards the Eastern. Anyone have any experience with them or a better solution?

I've used Eastern on other cars, its been OK.

Make sure you factor in shipping from RA, thats likely to be bulky/heavy.

The Eastern Catalytic converter arrived from RA and I had it installed today. The installer had no trouble and it did bolt right up. It sounds great (read that very quiet), appears to be a high quality item, has a 5-year 50K mile warranty, it's made in the USA, and a great alternative to other converters at or over a grand. It arrived at my house for $311 and the muffler shop charged me $30 to install it.
