"Air Switch Off All The Time"

I'm picking up a 93 tomorrow from a guy who has only had it a short while, I believe he got it from his dad's friend, and he seems to know very little about the car. He has the air switch turned off.

The car is gorgeous, one tiny ding, sweet interior, drives like a dream, no shudders, no weirdness at all.

It appears to have new air shocks up front, he does confirm this, and I guess maybe the back has been done too. From my understanding, which is very limited, the fact the car is fine and the suspension works well with the air switch off means it's tight, no leaks. The check air suspension message is on with the switch in both positions. I could hear nothing when he turned it on so I suspect a borken compressor or perhaps a sensor.

It could be many causes, like the compressor relay, the three ride height sensors, valves, etc. The system goes through a self check on start-up and if there are codes stored in the system or present issues, it will turn the message on. There are many write-ups on the procedure to check for codes and causes, do a search.

it means someone swapped out the air springs for a coil conversion, and didn't take the time to cut the wire that sends the "check air suspension" message to the message center.

you can either press RESET every time you start the car, on the message center, or go in behind the glove box, up above the passenger side kick panel, locate the correct wire, and simply CUT it. this will not allow the message to be displayed, and you can turn the switch back ON.

with a coil conversion, why should the switch be ON?

I believe if you don't turn the air suspension switch back on, even if you no longer actually have air ride, the message center will display the "air suspension turned off" warning...no other reason. Evidentally, the message center warning is controlled strictly by the switch position without regard for the workings of the rest of the air-ride system.
