I see some are preferring the 245-50-16 on the 95 marks. Do they clear the fenders well? I just removed the air bags and went with a set of springs if that matters. What about 255-55-16's...will they fit?
Both sizes will clear fender wells with OEM factory wheels. The 245's will lower the car a little bit, as they are smaller diameter, and add a slightly wider stance. Also the speedometer will be off about 3 mph (when doing 60 you will actually be doing 57-58 mph). The negatives include the smaller diameter tires don't fill the wheel wells from the side view of car, so even though the car is lower in stance, it may not appear to be from the side view. Also less clearance for snow chains, if you deal with that issue.
The 245's, if performance tires, will corner better!
The 255-55-16's will fit nicely and do not rub the fenderwells, but may rub if you have lowered the car. They are also the outer limit widest tire that will mount on the stock wheels, and are the same diameter as stock, so no issues with the speedometer.
Problem is: there are very few tires available in that size, and the few there are seem to be designed for SUV's.
Please let us know if you have found 255-55-16's that are suitable for the Mark VIII.
