"Intermittent start issue"

Hi Folks,
New guy to the site here with info I want to share. I bought a 98 Collectors Edition about 8 months ago and just love the car. It has the typical HVAC blend door issue but here in the “Peoples Republic of California” it is not an issue. I’ll fix it when I get time.
He is the info. I had and intermittent start issue with the anti theft light flashing rapidly as described in several of the posts I read. After reading the posts I was convince it was a PATS problem. I purchased a programmer from Dennis Reinhart that allowed me to turn the PATS off thinking it would solve the problem. After reprogramming the computer I still had the problem with intermittent failure to start and anti theft light flashing. At this point I reinstalled the stock program an not wanting to spend any more time on it myself I took it to a local shop to get it fixed. The shop owner spent a while chasing error codes that he pulled from the computer. As it turned out after a couple of hours troubleshooting he determined the ECC relay was at fault. He installed a new relay and the problem was solved. $ 28.00 part and $220.00 in labor to find it. Now I am going to install the performance program from Reinhart. He stated the new program should improve the performance and fuel mileage. My question is did those of you that have used Dennis’s program notice and difference in performance and an improvement in the fuel mileage?
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
Bill

Sorry I did not catch this earlier. I do not go to this section because I do not often see anything new here.

Anyway, If you get the "Premium Fuel" program, you might get a tad better fuel economy; might not. You will have more throttle response, more low engine speed torque, and if you do not make any changes before final load, higher WOT shift points (around 6800 RPM instead of around 6200 RPM), slightly raised upshift points snd if you had asked before buying, engine coolant temperature maintenance at a lower temperature - ie turn on at 196 instead of turn on at 205 and turn off at 195. Your engine will feel like a V-8 should.

Respectfully,

Littlehorn

When you say intermittent start issue, what exactly is the car doing?
Is it trying to crank but doesn't or when you turned the key you got nothing. The reason that I am asking is because my 98 LSC would do nothing when I turned the key, no cranking at all. I need to address the problem in the near future. A mechanic by passed the problem with a ground wire from the starter relay; now I can start the car in any gear.Maybe your solution is mine also.
