"Rules of this Forum"

Welcome to Ask A Cop. Gale has kindly offered to answer the questions of markviii.org members in this forum. Please do not add to old topics if you have a new question. It is easier for him to answer questions if they don't get too convoluted with tons of unrelated replies.

OK, we've had our first few posts. Let's reiterate something right off the bat. The name of the forum is "Ask a Cop". If you have a question you would like Gale (or any other LEO who wants to participate) to answer a question, giving his point of view, then ask a question here. If you have an issue you'd like to discuss in general, with anyone who wants to contribute their opinion, post it in Anything Goes.

What this also means is that if you're NOT a law enforcement officer, please refrain from replying in the thread, at least until Gale has a chance to make an initial response, at which point, other users can contribute their experiences.

I'd be happy to help out however I can, I am a car guy who loves to go fast...and a cop. I will try to answer your questions in a candid and honest/forthright manner.

Hello, and welcome. Your participation is very much appreciated, and feel free to jump in as often as you like. I've been retired for nearly 18 months, so my memory may be fading in certain areas, and I may not be current on the state-of-the-art.

Without naming the specific agency (unless you want to), are you city, county or state?

Thanks again for your input.

I work in a city, but patrol an entire county, just about, through a mutual-aid agreement (the county is very under-budgeted and, henceforth, short-handed). I worked previously in a city with several miles of a major interstate running right through it, so most of my years of experience have been spent on the road, in traffic enforcement and drug interdiction.
