Stock is limited to 132.

With a chip?? How much road do you have? I've been up to 158 with a Jerry chip, but it probably wasn't a good idea.

disclaimer: This was done on a good road, with "Z" rated tires in excellent condition. No cars were near when I did this and the reason I shut it down at 158 was because I was aproaching traffic quickly (yes, it was still accelerating). If you try something this stupid make sure you don't put anyone but yourself at risk!

At the time, did you have any other mods to reach 158?

Jerry chip, true dual exhaust, no mufflers (lost a bunch of low end torque), sensor lowered, K&N cone filter. That's pretty much it.

Aw, never mind. I'm sure what I originally wrote would have peeved someone. And it wasn't an insult.

I believe around 150 (true, not indicated) is a fair number for a Mark with the limiter removed.

Joe,

Mix the theoretical rpm by these factors to get the mph.

Tire Diameter for stock 225/60/16 = 26.6299
Rear End Ratio = 3.07 Stock
Final OD Trans Ratio = .7
RPM Redline = 6000

In OD at redline you get 221 mph
In 3rd at a 1-1 ratio you get 155 mph at 6000rpm

Reality would be around 165 at 4500 rpm in OD going downhill slightly. 150 mph separates the men from the boys and aerodynamics plays the biggest role.

So I say 165 is the fastest anybody will run a Mark with a chip, etc.

IMHO.

You forgot one key element. Air! Mathematics will tell you the numeric equation results. But physics plays a more important role. Otherwise 700hp Nascar boys would be running about 345 mph! It isnt only the flow of the air over the body, nor just the resistance that mass air provides against any moving object, but you must take into consideration the amount of air the motor will actually be able to draw into the motor at that speed. Picture the whisp of smoke used in aerodynamic wind tunnel testing. The frontal area of any car creates a "pocket" in which the car is driving through. You've heard the term "punch a hole in the air". Well, the more the frontal area of the car pushed the air around the car, the less air the motor can draw from. Top speed is more than math... alot more. Physics my dear Watson. Another one of science's evil tricks!

   LOL

it's just nice to know that you have the same top speed as a Z28, Corvette, trans am, m5 bmw ect.

I did 150 in an Ls1 Z28 that I test drove (took it out by myself, no dealer).

And rode in my friends 2002 M5 @ 155. Didnt seem like we were going THAT fast.

And you forgot reading and writing are just as important as mathematics. LOL.

Did you speed read over this paragraph?. Here it is again.

"Reality would be around 165 at 4500 rpm in OD going downhill slightly. 150 mph separates the men from the boys and aerodynamics plays the biggest role." /b] That is where the word air comes from, aero. Faster you go, more air resistance. That is why I said theoretical in the calculation. The Mark is capable of inhaling enough air to push it to its theoretical speed, it just needs help.

So are you suggesting that my theoretical assessment of a Lincoln Mark VIII's potential top end is flawed as I have stated here?
