"Intech...does it have a meaning?"

Kind of a silly question...a kid at the oil change place asked me what "Intech" meant or stood for, but never really thought about it, so I couldn't really answer him. Does it have any meaning or is it just a name like Northstar?

It was kinda nice having a 18 year old kid impressed with an old man's Lincoln

Hmmm, I don't think it has a meaning, same thing as Vortec or Northstar I believe.

It is an odd name, though. I always thought that perhaps it meant "internal technology", referring to DOHC/32V. At least engine names in the past, such as Rocket V-8 and Turbo-Jet, created some type of image. Oh well, at least "Hemi" means something.

I think there is a brand of golf clubs called Intech - perhaps some Lincoln exec liked them and "borrowed" the name.

In-Tech refers to : Integral-Technology...meaning.. exactly that. technology is integrated throught the engine. You must admit, it really is pretty advanced.

Not to pick but... VTEC actaully DOES stand for something...

Of course I cant remember what, nor do I care to:

Variable Timing Engine Control... or something to that nature....the valves adjust themselves electronically...or they cook rice.. one or the other.

Lets make something up for INTECH and refer to it as such from this day forward.

Looking for suggestions.

Heres a few:

In Norway Teachers Excercise Childrens Hands
Invisible Nuns Try Every Cold Hour
Ideas Never Tire Especially Come Holidays
Inspired Normally To Everyones Complete Honor
Incidents Never Totally Ensure Complete Happiness

And last but not least:

Insightfully Nimble To Ensure Corner Handling

Anyone else?

integral technology certainly sounds right. and thinking about it, way back in 1993 when the dohc was first sold under the hood of any car it gave lincoln the chance to play the name game caddy started with northstar. while northstar sounds pretty meaningless to me intech or integral technology bears significance dohc 32v full electronic engine management including electronic tranny. thinking back to my 1997's video and brochure I remember something about them saying intech was part of a complete system of engine and chasis optimizations making intech a "system" rather than just an engine. the northstar appears in many caddys and the vortech is also shared as is the ztech and those darn ricey vtec's but the intech only is in the Mark. Which adds support to my theory that Lincoln intended it as a model image not a brand image. A Mark would still be a Mark without the intech badge but the name makes it more upscale sounding.
So next time someone asks what intech stands for you can tell them it means your car was designed to be the baddest ride ever and it will turn their honda into a side of uncle bens if they so much as try their luck against your "Intech MK8"

Eat rice... it's good for you

I dont want to start a war on words, but if memory serves, the "In-Tech" actually DOES refer to a family of engines. I believe, but correct me if I am wrong, there was a whole line-up of In-Tech engines available in different Ford vehicles. I believe my Boss' 97 Expedition has a "In-Tech" 5.4 liter engine.

Any Ford Ghuru's want to put this to rest?

Sorry to have correct every one but Intech means it was designed by the In-Tech and not the Out-Tech. the last time they let the Out-Tech design something it was the Pinto. Remember the exploding gas tank incident? That was designed by an Out-Tech....

Its no wonder Carmen allowed you to pro-create Stanley. You crack me up. Seeing how that Pinto pic has a date and all, you must have snapped that yourself...do you miss the old "tank Bomb"?

I actually had a Pinto "Squire" station wagon, (fake wood on the sides). I do have to say that station wagon was really a nice little car...

WE used to beat around in an old mid 70's Mercury BOBCAT.
It was orange and black and it was a "Cool little beater".

It got the front end mashed, and they put a same color same year PINTO front end on it...
the Then it was a BOBTO... er something like that.
