"Cobra engine vs 98 LSC engine"
Can anyone tell me the difference between the engine in a late model Mustang Cobra vs the 32 valve engine in my LSC? Is it strictly bolt on stuff such as heads and manifolds or does it go further? Has anyone bolted Cobra heads, manifolds etc on to their engine? What were the results?

I don't know , but I am curious too. I had two Ford dudes tell me that the 97 LSC motor was a de-tuned Cobra motor. I would really like to know, cause I would like to "retune" mine if that's the case. If someone has specific info. on this, please post it....I love the info at the Mustang and Cobra sites, but can never find out if it is applicable to my car's motor. Thanks!

The mark has a 6 bolt flywheel, the cobra has 8.The marks heads are the same(til 97),just different cams, obviously the intakes are different. The mark uses a vaccume operated "IRC" opener, while the cobras is electrical.Cobra valve covers are aluminum, while the marks are plastic. The exhaust manifolds are different also, the cobras are more of a "REAL" header while the marks are just "STANDARD" exhaust manifolds, the cobra has an air pump, the mark doesnt. The mark has a 120 amp alternator, the cobra's is 130 amps.and thats about it.Theres many more 'SMALL' differences if you want ill post it,but I hope this helps for now. GENO.

GENO

Based on your posting, it would seem the only significant difference between the two engines, other then bolt on externals, are the cams. In your opinion, would it be a worthwhile exercise to try a cam swap in the on going quest for more power without sacrificing engine durability?

I thought all the Cobras had spark plug wires, which the 97-98 Marks do not....

Unfortunately a cam change will run you well over a grand then you need headersand an exhaust system.big bucks for 20-30 hp

Geno,

Were the IMRC plates ALWAYS electrical on the Cobras? I thought they went electrical in 99 or so...
